Distribution   Western Indian Ocean: southern Red Sea, South Africa and east to Sri Lanka

 

This is a beautiful saltwater reef fish which grows to a length of 60 cm.  Adults found in weed, rock and coral areas while juveniles in shallow tidal pools. Males of this species are mildly aggressive so keep only one male specimen in a small aquarium. The head is pale yellow and rest part is light bluish-green with number of black dots. Caudal fin truncate and having white margins. A diagonal white band passes from front of dorsal fin to nape. Formosan coris can tolerate moderate water quality with temperature ranging from 24 - 27°C and pH 8.0-8.5. It is carnivorous and feeds mainly on hard-shelled prey, including crustaceans, molluscs and sea urchins. The fish accepts small meat items, commercial flakes specially made for carnivore fishes. Breeding unknown.
