Red oranda is one of the most popular goldfish in the ornamental trade. It is characterized by a prominent raspberry-like hood encasing its head. It has a large, long and deep body accompanied by a long quadruple tail.  Red oranda is hardy and long lives up to 25 years in captivity. It grows to a length of 31 cm. Very peaceful fish and several numbers of its own can be kept in an aquarium. It can tolerate quite a variable water quality like temperature 17-28 °C, pH 6.0-8.0 and hardness 5-20 dGH. Omnivorous, can be fed on Goldfish flake or pellet food, frozen foods and vegetable matter.  Males have small white dots on  head, pectoral fins and gill covers at maturity. The female lay about 1000 sticky eggs. Available in a several colors, orange, red, red-and-white, red-and-black, black, blue, chocolate, bronze, white or silver, black-and-white (panda-colored), red-black-and-white (tricolor), and calico colors.
