The Lionfish is a Marine tropical species distributed world-wide. It likes to live amongst the coral reefs at the bottom of the sea. Highly venomous reef fish and hence should not be handle with bare hands.  Red lionfish are clad in white stripes alternated with red, maroon, or brown bands. The pectoral fin is present in a distinctive fan-like shape, and dorsal spines are long and separated. Every spine of the lionfish is venomous, and while no fatalities due to lionfish stings have been reported, their venom is extremely painful. They grow to a maximum size of approximately 43 cm. Highly predatory and hence should not be kept with small fishes. These fishes require strict water quality. They become very active at night when it hunts the reef searching for prey. It feeds primarily on live fishes and uses its large fin span to corner prey before striking with exceptional speed.
