They are native of Lake Malawi, the second biggest lake of Africa. It grows to a maximum size of 15 cm and is commonly called Albino Pindani at the place of its origin. It lives in the intermediate zone of lake water. The optimum water quality requirement for temperature is 23-27 0C, pH 7.8-8.6 and hardness 12-15 dGH. The fish is mildly aggressive and therefore pose little problem in the aquaria. Omnivorous, and their diet should consist of mostly veggies and some live foods. They also accept a variety of store bought foods as well.  Females and males are identical with the exception of some females who may sometimes lack egg spots on the anal fin. It is a maternal mouth brooder and a female may hold around 60 fry in her mouth for 3 weeks. The life span is 5-8 years.
