The comet goldfish variety is thought to have originated from the United States around the 1800s. It is a single-tail long bodied goldfish, much like the common goldfish but with sharper red colour. They are fast and agile swimmers. Grows to a length of about 15 to 25 cm in an aquarium.  The caudal fin on the comet is almost as long as its body in a good specimen, but it can still be held erect. The caudal fin is deeply forked, and the lobes are sharply pointed. They are peaceful fishes and can live easily with other peaceful fishes in a community aquarium. It can live in quiet a variable water quality with temperature ranging 18-25 °C. Omnivore and feeds on many vegetable and meaty items and readily accepts artificial fish diets. Comets are prolific breeders and can be bred both in aquarium and ponds. Available in yellow, orange, white, and red, sometime bi-color red/white combination and occasionally with nacreous (pearly) scales.
