This fish is found in both fresh and brackish waters all along the sea coasts in the countries of their origin. The body is disc-shaped, laterally compressed and looks like the freshwater angel fishes. Scales very small and silvery. A dark bar passes through the large eye. Another slightly thinner bar rounds down from the front of the dorsal fin. The lateral line is highly arched. It grows to a length of 25 cm. This species does not eat any hard-leafy plants and hence can be kept along with natural plants.  It is peaceful, lively and sometimes rather shy, but when they are kept in a large shoal, they can overcome their shyness. Ideal temperature 24-27 °C. Omnivore and enjoy both live food and food flakes and can manage with vegetable food as well. Sexual differentiation not known. It forms bubble nest near the water surface in between the aquatic weeds and the eggs are guarded by the male parent.
