Distribution   Borneo, Sumatra, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand in South East Asia

 

This is one of the important ornamental fish of South East Asia and is found in fast-flowing water. It is an elongated fish of bluish silver colouration with yellow fins edging with thick black margin. This fish may grows to a length of 35 cm. It is a fast swimmer and looks impressive in shoals in an aquarium. They are quiet peaceful fish excepting that they nibble on the plants so it is advisable not to put natural plants in the aquarium, however artificial plants are always welcome. The ideal water quality requirements are temperature 24-26 0C, pH 6.0-7.0 and hardness 6-12 dGH.  It is an omnivore fish and eats live as well as frozen food items including vegetable food such as blanched spinach and lettuce leaves. Breeding difficult but reports of accidental breeding in aquarium have been recorded.
